100 richest people: Mukesh Ambani 4th, Mittal 5th
The New York Times' Mexican investor Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in the world, worth $53.5 billion, according to the 2010 Forbes list of the world's billionaires.Bill Gates is the second richest, with $53 billion, Warren Buffett third, with $47 billion, and then come the Indians Mukesh Ambani, fourth, with $29 billion, and Lakshmi Mittal, fifth, with $28.7 billion.
Lawrence Ellison of Oracle is sixth, with $28 billion, and Bernard Arnault of LVMH seventh, with $27.5 billion. He is the richest European.
Mukesh Ambani's brother, Anil Ambani, is down to 36th, with $13.7 billion. Fellow Indian Azim Premji of Wipro is richer, ranked 28th, with $17 billion. Other Indians among the 100 richest billionaires are Shashi and Ravi Ruia, ranked 40th, with $13 billion, Savitri Jindal, 44th, with $12.2 billion, Kushal Pal Singh, 74th with $9 billion, Kumar Birla, 86th, with $7.9 billion, Sunil Mittal, 87th, with $7.8 billion
Li Ka-shing is the richest Chinese, taking the 14th spot with $21 billion, just ahead of Jim Walton of Wal-Mart, ranked 15th with $20.7 billion, and Alice Walton,also of Wal-Mart, who is 16th with $20.6 billion. Read on to see the list of the world's 100 richest people.
Lee Shau Kee is the second richest Chinese, ranked 22nd, with $18.5 billion.
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al-Saud is the richest Arab, ranked 19th, with $19.4 billion.
Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin share the 24th spot with Charles Koch and David Koch, with $17.5 billion each.
David Thomson of Thomson Reuters is ranked 20th with $19 billion.
Michael Bloomberg of Bloomberg News is 23rd, with $18 billion.
Techies among the top 100 include Steven Ballmer (33rd, with $14.5 billion), Michael Dell and Paul Allen (both 37th, with $13.5 billion each) and Jeffrey Bezos of Amazon.com (43rd, with $12.3 billion)
Robert Kuok of Malaysia is the richest billionaire from Southeast Asia, sharing the 33rd spot with Steven Ballmer with $14.5 billion.
Ananda Krishnan, also of Malaysia, is the only other billionaire from Southeast Asia in the top 100. He is ranked 89th with $7.6 billion.
Frequent newsmakers in the top 100 include financier George Soros, ranked 35th with $14 billion, Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich, 50th with $11.2 billion, and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, 74th with $9 billion. Property magnate Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor is the richest Briton, ranked 45th with $12 billion.
The American Mars chocolate family's Forrest Mars Jr, Jacqueline Mars and John Mars share the 52nd place with $11 billion each.
Americans continue to be in a majority on the top 100 list followed by the Russians, Indians and Germans.
Vladimir Lisin is the richest Russian, ranked 32nd with $15.8 billion, followed by Mikhail Prokhorov, 39th with $13.4 billion, Mikhail Fridman, 42nd with $12.7 billion, Roman Abramovich, 50th with $11.2 billion, Oleg Deripaska, 57th with $10.7 billion, Vagit Alekperov, 58th with $10.6 billion, Vladimir Potanin, 61st with $10.1 billion, Alexei Mordashov, 70th with $9.9 billion, Viktor Rashnikov , 71st with $9.8 billion, Dmitry Rybolovlev, 79th with $8.6 billion, Iskander Makhmudov, 80th with $8.5 billion and Vladimir Yevtushenkov, 93rd with $7.5 billion.
